Information about NHS dental services and charges
We are not currently accepting new NHS patients.
Our NHS patient list is currently full. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We remain committed to providing excellent care to our existing NHS patients and welcome new patients who wish to register for private dental care.
If you need to find an NHS dentist accepting new patients, please visit www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist or call NHS 111 if you require emergency assistance.
The NHS provides comprehensive dental care to help you maintain good oral health. NHS dental treatment includes all clinically necessary treatment to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy and free from pain. This includes preventative treatment, as well as treatments such as fillings, extractions, crowns and root canal treatments.
Purely cosmetic treatments are not available on the NHS, such as teeth whitening, cosmetic orthodontics, tooth coloured fillings for back teeth, or composite bonding (if purely for an aesthetic reason).
NHS dental charges are set by the NHS and reviewed annually. The current charges are organised into four bands:
Includes examinations, diagnosis (including X-rays), scale and polishes if clinically indicated, and preventative care/advice.
Includes everything in Band 1, PLUS additional treatment such as fillings, root canal treatment, extractions and other restorative care. This covers any number of treatments needed in a single course of treatment.
Includes everything in Band 1 and 2 PLUS more complex procedures, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and other laboratory work. This is the maximum you will pay for a single course of treatment, regardless of how many items are provided.
Covers emergency care including pain relief, temporary fillings, and other urgent treatment to stabilise your condition. It does not include any ongoing or non-urgent treatment.
Some patients may be exempt from paying treatment costs, if at the time of treatment they meet certain criteria.
A full list of exemptions can be found here: NHS — Who can get free NHS dental treatment
If you claim free treatment or help with costs, you must show proof before your treatment starts.
Important:If you incorrectly claim free treatment or help with costs when you are not entitled, you may have to pay a penalty charge of up to £100 plus the cost of your treatment.
Our team is happy to answer any questions about NHS Dental Services, charges or exemptions.
